Aerogel is considered the best insulation material ever invented. It consists of a foam substance of air, silica, and carbon called aerogel. Aerogel is also known as "frozen smoke" or "solid cloud" because of its ultra-lightweight substance.
It was originally invented by NASA in 1930, and has been used for insulating spacecraft and life support equipment. Aerogel can hold up under temperatures of 3,000 Fahrenheit.
Aerogel isn’t just the lightest insulator on Earth, but also has the least thermal conductivity of any solid material. The extremely lightweight makes it the perfect filling for our ultra-soft fabric quilt.
